Ayşe Alacakaptan is a cinematographer born in Istanbul and based in Berlin. She studied at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin DFFB. Since 2015, she has worked on documentary and fiction projects in Germany,Turkey and worldwide shooting both digitally and on analog formats.
Her particular interest lies in cinematic narration. For her, cinematography is not merely a visual craft but a way of thinking and storytelling through images. Her work is characterized by a strong sensitivity to atmosphere and visual language.
Her documentary The Mölln Letters premiered in 2025 in the Panorama section of the Berlinale, where it received both the Panorama Audience Award and the Amnesty International Film Award. For her feature film Athlete, she was awarded Best Cinematography at the 44th Istanbul Film Festival and the 36th Ankara Film Festival. She is the youngest recipient of this award in both Istanbul and Ankara, and the first Turkish female cinematographer to receive this honour in Istanbul.
She is a member of the Cinematographers’ Association of Turkey and Cinematographinnen.
